Salcombe Private Boat Hire

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a private boat charter on the stunningly beautiful River Dart onboard the spacious and stylish Admirals Tender.  This strikingly attractive boat will take up to nine people in complete comfort and safety on a breathtaking river tour, leaving you with memories for a lifetime.

A private charter will allow you and your guests to celebrate birthdays, an anniversary or even a proposal!  Wildlife photography, painting trips, or simply a treat on a sunny day; there is no better place in the world to be with good company, good food and drink on a very special boat. A superb picnic will be supplied by us at the hotel along with drinks of your choice.

The private charter will start at Kingswear where the River Dart enters the sea and here you will experience  one of the most fabulous views anywhere in the world, between two castles, ‘Kingswear’ and ‘Dartmouth’.  From there you will travel up to Totnes, this is a truly beautiful stretch of river, then return.  There are binoculars on the boat which are for your use need to use as you will spot Seals, Cormorants, Herons and even leaping Salmon which travel from here all the way up to the pools in the River Dart. There is a camera on board and any photographs taken on the day can be emailed to the guests for a very special keepsake.

We can also arrange various visits along the way included in the journey (allow longer than the minimum time), some suggestions are:-

Visit  Sharpham Estate and take a tour of the amazing grounds and taste some wines and cheeses. This thousand year old farm consists of five hundred acres owned by the Sharpham Trust. The house, designed in 1770 by Sir Robert Taylor, overlooks the fields and wooded slopes above the River Dart, two miles downstream of the ancient market town of Totnes. Our aim today is to farm successfully in the modern context and to produce world class wine and cheese in harmony with the environment and the natural beauty of the Estate

Visit the National Trust’s ‘Greenway House’ This is an extraordinary glimpse into the private holiday home of the famous and much-loved author Agatha Christie and her family. The relaxed and atmospheric house is set in the 1950s, and contains many of the family's collections, including archaeology, Tunbridgeware, silver, botanical china and books. Outside you can explore the large and romantic woodland garden, with a restored vinery and peach house, wild edges and rare plantings, which drifts down the hillside towards the sparkling Dart estuary. Consider 'green ways' to get here, to relieve pressure on lanes: for example cycling, walking or ferries from Dartmouth and Torquay

Take a special Wildlife trip with Tony Soper. Tony Soper is a writer and broadcaster who co-founded the BBC's famous Natural History Unit, was its first wildlife cameraman and became its first film producer.  He cut his teeth on the ground-breaking 'LOOK' series and organised far-flung wildlife adventures. Subsequently as a freelance he devised and anchored the live television BIRDWATCH programmes, presented the film series DISCOVERING BIRDS and BESIDE THE SEA, and the long-running environmental series NATURE on BBC2.   He has presented many television films for BBC and for National Geographic. But in a parallel career he was one of the pioneers of expedition cruising, with over forty years of experience running small vessels on birding cruises as well as lecturing on everything from seaside tripper-boats to the largest and grandest cruise ships. (Subject to Tony’s availability)

The price is only £95 per hour for the entire boat and skipper, the minimum time for a bespoke charter is 3 hours but may be more depending on the trip you desire.
As one might imagine it is weather dependant but there will be no charge if the charter has to be cancelled because of bad weather.
