
What to do in Salcombe

The beaches in Salcombe are sandy with rock pools for children and an abundance of water sports for the adventurous types. The clear water also attracts divers who explore the shipwrecks in the area. On many occasions dolphins and seals have been seen swimming and diving in the cove.
Salcombe is a centre for boats and water sports. There is a superb range of water and land based activities. You can learn to sail, hire a dinghy to explore the many creeks and beaches around the Salcombe Estuary, go scuba diving, canoeing/kayaking, power boating, surfing, fishing and horse riding, to name but a few!
For a more relaxing holiday, take a scenic boat trip, walk the coastal paths or enjoy lazing on one of the many beautiful beaches Salcombe has to offer. If the weather should disappoint, you will find plenty of interesting tours and fun things to do under-cover, to keep the whole family entertained.
Travelling the Salcombe Estuaryby ferry is recommended. The Rivermaid Ferry sails to Kingsbridge and the East Portlemouth Ferry crosses the estuary to the sandy beaches of Smalls Cove, Mill Bay and Sunny Cove. There is also a ferry that goes to South Sands.
Salcombe became famous for the schooners which brought fruit from the West Indies. Details of this historic trade and other interesting history can be found in the Museum of Maritime and Local History on the Custom House Quay.
